I tuned into Super Bowl LVI (Congrats to the Los Angeles Rams!) mostly for the commercials! When the lone QR code showed up early in the game I was mesmerized! Inevitably waiting for the bouncing QR Code to Hit the Corner, I pulled out my phone and opened the camera! Shortly after, my phone opened the App Store ready to “Get” the app, Coinbase.
I did, along with countless other folks, what I thought I should do… Download the app and sign up for a whopping $15 worth of Bitcoin! I promptly entered my email address and a new password… to be followed by the high traffic error and an alert that said they’d email me when they were ready to go.
They did indeed email later that evening! I waited until the following morning, but decided to give them a shot. I’ve heard, on the downside, that their fees to transfer funds to an external wallet — say MetaMask — is incredibly high. I’ll follow up with my personal experience on that in the future!
For now, I just thought I’d let you know how my sign up experience went.
In comparison to crypto.com, the Coinbase KYC (Know Your Customer) policy was not very intrusive at all. I was more surprised that they were “required” to know how I would use the app and what industry I worked in. Sure, it asked the typical stuff… Name, Address, Phone, etc. But, they only asked for the last 4 of my social security number. And, Nothing about my License. The crypto.com app had me take a photo of the front and back.
UPDATE
So nothing on the sign up with my License… but If you want to “Learn & Earn” or just Trade in general… you’ll be asked to take photos of the IDs.
I’ve already earned an extra $3 worth of RNDR for learning about Distributed GPU rendering!
A quick Plaid connection to my local bank had me trading in just a few short minutes! I swapped my hard earned USDs for $100 of USDC just for the experience… and to see if I get that $15 sign up bonus!
If you didn’t get hyped into the FOMO from last night and decide you want to try Coinbase… Feel free to use My Referral Code!
UPDATE!!!
Within minutes of signing up and purchasing USDC coins… I received my $15 Bitcoin Bonus!! Thanks Coinbase!
